Flight time from UK

From London to Colombo direct is 11 hours. There is often a stop in the Maldives though.

Since 1 Jan 2012, it is no longer possible for foreign nationals (except Singaporean and Maldivian nationals) to get 30 day visas on arrival at the airport in Sri Lanka. Tourists must apply online through the Electronic Travel Authority (ETA; www.eta.gov.lk) and pay the requisite application fee.

Tourists wishing to stay for over 30 days should apply at their nearest embassy for a 90-day visa.

Health requirements

The only vaccine requiredby international regulation is Yellow Fever but ONLY if you have visited an infected country in the 6 days before arrival. The MASTA (Medical Advisory Services for Travellers Abroad) website www.masta.org (09068 224100) will give you up-to-date advice, as well as the location of your nearest Travel Clinic. Another good website to visit for travel health advice is the NHS website www.fitfortravel.scot.nhs.uk.
